What is a Naming Ceremony (Namakarana) in Karnataka?
In Karnataka, the naming ceremony is one of the first and most special functions in a baby's life. It is called Namakarana, and in many homes it is done together with the Thottilu Shastra, which is the cradle ceremony. That is why many families use the words "Naming Ceremony" and "Cradle Ceremony" to mean the same function.
Usually the ceremony happens on the 11th, 12th or 21st day after birth, or on a date given by the family priest. The baby is placed in a decorated cradle for the first time, elders whisper the name in the baby's ear, and the women of the family sing traditional cradle songs. Relatives come to bless the baby, and it becomes a happy family gathering.
Since elders, relatives and neighbours all need to be invited, a neat invitation in Kannada makes everyone feel respected and welcome.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is it really free to make a Kannada naming ceremony invitation?
Yes. We have a set of free templates where you can edit the text, change fonts and colours, move elements, and download in HD or PDF. Premium templates are optional and give extra features like QR codes, extra text and stickers.
I don't know Kannada typing. Can I still make the card in Kannada?
Yes, this is the most loved feature. Just type in English like "thottilu shastra" and it will automatically become "ತೊಟ್ಟಿಲು ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ". You don't need any Kannada keyboard.
Is Naming Ceremony and Cradle Ceremony the same thing?
In most Kannada families, both are done on the same day, so people use both words for the same function. You can use our templates for Namakarana, Thottilu Shastra, or both together.
